YSU PUBLISHING HOUSE PARTICIPATES IN THE 68TH BOOK FAIR
The 68th Frankfurt Book Fair will take place from 19 to 23 October 2016.

Armenia also participates with its separate pavilion at the international exhibition. Our side presents the literature in native and foreign languages, published in the period of previous several years.

Three prestigious publishing houses, “YSU”, “Antares” and “Zangak”, participate in the Frankfurt Fair with the support of the RA Ministry of Culture. We should also note about the First Literary Agency, Fund for the Armenian Literature and Literary Agency “ARI”. Book presentations will also be held in the frames of this event.

YSU publishing house will present “The Atlas of the Armenian Genocide” (in English) drawn up by the Institute for Armenian Studies, which via maps and descriptions in English shows the chronology of the Armenian Genocide beginning with Abdul Hamid massacres up to Sumgait Pogroms. The book by historian Artak Movsisyan “The 5000-year-old state”, which is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, is also included in our exhibition list.

The Netherlands and Flanders are the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2016. The world’s most prestigious event is attended by more than 7100 exhibitors from 100 countries. About 4000 events are expected in these five days. More than 10,000 accredited journalists, 2,000 of whom are bloggers, will work here. Overall, the fair will take around 275,000 visitors.

In 2016 YSU Publishing House became a full member of the Association of European University Presses, and this year for the first time participated in the Association’s annual meeting in Germany, during which the parties discussed some issues related to the publishing industry, as well as the problem of creating and publishing a joint catalog.

According to the Director of YSU Publishing House Karen Grigoryan, as a result of a number of agreements with the publishers, representing member countries of the association (European and American), it will be possible to translate and publish the textbooks published in recent years, which, according to Karen Grigoryan, is important for students. YSU publishing house will carry out serious work in this direction.

Mr. Grigoryan also noted which topics were selected for the participation in this event: “35 books related to the history of the Armenian Genocide and the Armenian question will be shown here. But this is not enough. There are many, for example, translated books. We need to review the list next year, to see which books are especially important for the foreign visitors, to provide them with the opportunity to learn more about our country. In general, such books should become one of the mandatory conditions for the participation in the fair.”

Karen Grigoryan book does not see any problem with the external design and content quality, comparing our books with the publications of other countries. Instead, he sees serious problems regarding the volume (of up to 1,000 copies are mainly published only).
