This time, the regular session of the Academic Council began with giving gifts. YSU Publishing House had prepared a surprise for the members of Academic Council on the Book Donation Day and birth anniversary of the Armenian outstanding writer Hovhannes Tumanyan. They received as a gift the book “Armenian Ethnology and Storytelling of Javakhk”, authored by Vard Bdoyan. Then eight students, who have recently won in the republican competition “Best Student”, received the album of paintings “Ararat” by Shmavon Shmavonyan. The names of the 26 scientists, who were included in the 2014 list of 100 most effective scientists, were also announced.
First issue on the agenda was the approval of the schedule for the 2nd semester of 2014-2015 academic year.
The next issue referred to the elections of the heads of chairs, lecturers and academic staff. The Academic Council via secret ballot approved the elections, held at the faculties. Accordingly, 18 people were elected head of chairs, 33 received academic rank of professor; nine people joined the academic staff.
The election of the candidates nominated by the subdivisions of YSU for the Board of Trustees of “Yerevan State University” Foundation was also held. According to the RA Government decision YSU Board of Trustees should be composed of 32 members (8 should represent professorial staff, 8 - students, 8 – authorized party and 8 - government). Via open vote, the names of the eight candidates, who represent professorial staff, were approved and submitted to the RA Government for the approval. These candidates are:
• Nazik Harutyunyan (Head of Chair of Pedagogy)
• Margarita Apresyan (Head of First Department of English Language)
• Eduard Harutyunyan (Head of Chair of Social Philosophy and Ethics)
• Gevorg Hajyan (Associate Professor at the Chair of Wave Process Theory and Physics)
• Ruben Harutyunyan (Head of Chair of Cytology and Genetics)
• Arthur Vagharshyan (Head of Chair of Theory and History of State and Law)
• Arthur Atanesyan (Head of Chair of Applied Sociology)
• Samvel Shukuryan (Scientific Supervisor of Information Technology Education and Research Centre)
The complex program for corruption combat in 2015-2018 was also approved during the session. YSU Anti-Corruption Commission has developed it.
“You know that our previous anti-corruption program expired in 2014. This program has three main parts - tasks, resources and purpose. Naturally, each expert, involved in these activities, should be aware of his scopes of responsibility and terms,” - said Aram Simonyan.
YSU Vice-rector on Educational Affair Alexander Grigoryan presented the results of the survey on the satisfaction with education, held among YSU alumni in 2011-2013. This survey was first held in 2008. Comparing the results of recent years, Mr. Grigoryan stated that the number of those wishing to receive master’s degree decreases.
“However, graduates assess the education received at YSU as excellent. 90% gave a positive response to the question whether they would advise their relatives or friends to enter YSU,” - says Mr. Grigoryan.
Mr. Grigoryan presented the assessments of the educational programs, teaching methodology and organization of educational process, made by students, as well as focused on the computer classrooms, library access and other issues.
Head of the Educational-methodological Department Hrant Zhamharyan submitted for the approval the list of students, who will receive nominal scholarships in the 2nd semester of current academic year. They are 56.
YSU SSS Chairman made a report on the activities of this student organization in 2013-2014 academic year. In this period, the SSS has published three collections of articles, one collection of abstracts, 113 scientific articles, 2 manuals, as well as the official website of the organization has been launched. 484 conferences, competitions, workshops, lectures, study tours, round-tables, seminars have been organized.
The last issue on the agenda was the scientific report “The regulation of usage of the Armenian Language”, prepared by the Head of Chair of Armenian Language Yura Avetisyan.
Current issues were two. YSU Faculty of International Relations received the approval for opening the Centre for Chinese language and culture. The well-known scientist of Armenian origin Jose Sarukhan from Mexico was awarded the title of YSU Honorary Doctor. He has served as the Rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which is one of the leading higher education institutions in Mexico. He has great contribution in the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide worldwide and impartial presentation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He is also known for his numerous researches and works in the field of biology.
