On the occasion of declaring Yerevan by UNESCO World Book Capital in 2012 and 90th anniversary of Yerevan State University Publishing House at the initiative of Yerevan State University and Armenian PR Association NGO the presentation (and donation) of books, published at the Publishing House in the last academic year, took place.

YSU Publishing House has registered the highest records in 2009-2010 academic year. 190 titles were published. On the occasion of 90th anniversary of YSU there were published 23 titles. Among 2009 issues we should note about Yerevan State University in Documents (V. Maghalyan), YSU -90: Book album, YSU -90: Chronicles, Tribute to the University (2008). In addition, first book was published at YSU in 1920.

Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan believes that the book is as vital, as it used to be in previous times, although there are many sources of information, however they can not replace the book, and according to him, such events are an opportunity for the book once again to remind of its main mission, source of information, especially for the Armenian students. I want to be sure that Yerevan State University, as the Alma Mater and as the innovator and keeper of best traditions in the system of higher education, can make its students keep the book constantly on their tables and become an integral part of everyday life, - said the Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan.

Since 2012 Yerevan is declared by UNESCO the World Book Capital, prior to this holiday owing to the support by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan we decided to organize an event, which will give students and young people the opportunity to be much closer to the book, - said the Armenian PR Association NGO Chairman, Yerevan State University Faculty of Journalism lecturer Astghik Avetisyan.

On the occasion of the Day of Book Yerevan State University Publishing House presents its one-year publications. I have to note that YSU Publishing House is very active in recent years, and has got its special place and significance in the book market not only for its textbooks and guides, but also in terms of publishing literature in general, including the scientific literature, - said YSU Rector Aram Simonyan congratulating those present on the occasion of the Day of Book.

Mr. Simonyan assured that Publishing House continues its active cooperation with G. Kyulpenkyan Foundation. And most recently in cooperation with G. Kyulpenkyan Fund YSU Publishing House has published Explanatory Dictionary of Stepan Malkhasyants.

According to Aram Simonyan, the University pays great attention to the publication of textbooks in recent years. In 2009 more than 50 university textbooks and manuals were published.

Publishing House director Pertch Stepanyan also promised that this is the beginning of publishing of a series of books on the occasion of 90th anniversary of YSU, and in this framework presentations of new books are expected.
