An event in memory of Professor Petros Hovhannisyan was organized at YSU Faculty of History today. The 7th volume of the “Works” by Nicholas Adonts was presented in its framework.

Colleagues, family members and students had come to pay tribute to the beloved pedagogue, researcher and man.

The event was attended by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan, Dean of the Faculty of History Edik Minasyan, Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the RA Ashot Melkonyan and others. Representatives of Etchmiadzin Gevorgyan Seminary were also present at the commemoration ceremony.

“This was in 1972 when I first met with Petros Hovhannisyan in this hall, who was a PhD student. He was a bright personality, lecturer and colleague, respected by all without exception. The professor was not only perfectly mastered in the subjects that he taught, but was a unique pedagogue. The 7th volume of the “Works” by Nicholas Adonts, authored by him, is presented today, but, unfortunately, he is not present now here,” - said Aram Simonyan.

Edik Minasyan presented the professor’s life and work, stressing that the memory of this talented historian, lecturer and honest citizen will always remain in our hearts.

“The professor taught at different faculties “Armenian History”, “History of Armenian Communities”, “Diaspora History”, “Source Studies” and a number of other subjects, special courses. Scientific-pedagogical work was combined by him with a creative work. He has edited and published many books. He has serious contribution in the field of bibliography, too,” - said the dean.

Then, the Acting Head of the Chair of Armenian History, Professor Artak Movsisyan presented the 7th volume of the above mentioned work which was published by YSU Publishing House.

“Our friendship with Mr. Hovhannisyan has lasted for about three decades. He was not just a brilliant scholar and pedagogue, but a man, whose contribution in the field of the education of generations is really invaluable,” – said Artak Movsisyan.

After the speeches colleagues and relatives of Mr. Hovhannisyan presented the participants of the meeting a number of interesting stories and episodes form the professor’s life.
