SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES OF THE FAMOUS SPECIALIST IN GENOCIDE STUDIES
Today, YSU students hosted the renowned linguist, ethnographer, specialist in Genocide Studies Vergine Svazlyan.

The event was organized by the Chair of Romance Philology of YSU Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology.

The lecturers, renowned scientists and young generation consider Vergine Svazlyan a legend alive. It should be noted that the famous scientist has made a great contribution to the presentation of the Armenian Genocide worldwide. This is evidenced by the dozens of studies and books that are being published in Armenia and around the world.

Head of Chair of Romance Philology Hasmik Baghdasaryan spoke about the scientific and pedagogical activities of Vergine Svazlyan, her monograph “Armenian Genocide: testimonies of the survivors”, as well as the translations from different languages. Hasmik Baghdasaryan is sure that the hero of the day continues to make new discoveries.

Mrs. Svazlyan noted in her speech that she always remembers about the message of her father, Garnik Svazlyan and owes to him for the entire success: “My father used to say to me that patriotism is a matter of dignity. And really, if you do not have dignity, then you cannot consider yourself a patriot. My father’s words helped me to start the researches in the field of the Armenian Genocide.”

The presentation of the book “Flower of Translation” was held in the framework of the event. It includes a number of translations by the lecturers from the departments of Italian and Spanish languages and 23 students from Spanish to Armenian, Italian to Armenian, and vice versa. The collection includes various literary works related to the Armenian Genocide, Genocide survivor memoirs and historical documents that are presented in the original language.

Hasmik Baghdasaryan noted that the collection aims to encourage students’ first steps in the field of translation, because it might be useful for the course “Theory and Practice of Translation”.
